Not in Full Time Education survey

Posted on

We would like to invite the parents and carers of children and young people with additional support needs who are not in full time education to speak with Maggie Hume from Highland Children’s forum. The Focus Group discussion is designed to hear about your child or young person’s experiences of not being able to access full time education as a result of their additional support needs.

The focus group will allow Maggie to hear from parent/carers who are perhaps at different stages in establishing provision so some may have to think retrospectively. It may be that some children and young people have their needs met through a range of settings and experiences and are in effect in fulltime education, Maggie would like to know about these cases also. It might be the right thing for some CYP that they are not in fulltime education and Maggie like to hear about that too.

Maggie completely understands how every family is different and therefore doesn’t want to be too prescriptive with the people she would like to hear from. Anonymity:  Despite being taped, the discussion will be anonymous. The tapes will be kept safely until they are transcribed, then they will be destroyed. Parent/carers are  very welcome to have a copy of the transcript.

When all the data is analysed, she will look for key themes and will use direct quotes from the interviews. The transcribed notes of the Focus Group will contain no information that would allow individual subjects to be linked to specific statements and any identifying features will be anonymised in the report.  You will receive a draft copy of the report for comment before it is published.

She would like any parents who would like to come along on Thursday from 12:30 –1:30/2pm at the Pines, Drummond Road, Inverness to fill in the   questionnaire (first page appears blank). You can bring a copy with you on the day or e-mail me karen.kelbie@chipplus.org.uk and I will print them out.

Apologises for the short notice and can you please e-mail  to advise if you wish to attend. If you are unable to attend, please let me know and I will pass your details to Maggie.
